Because of those who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives to keep our country free, we all have the freedom and a lifestyle that is the American dream.
In memory of those who came before us and those who continue to keep our country free, so that on Memorial Day, we can respect our history, freely picnic, play, vacation and spend valuable family time together.
If you ever have a chance to visit the Arlington National Cemetery, please do so, it gives an overwhelming perspective on our nations sacrifice.

Twilight pen and ink – Contently Curled

Basking in the sun as a bikini clad model would, with the expectation of accolades from passers-by. Sleeping all hours of the day and never lifting a paw, since there is the required staff. Dining on meals with a preference of an attentive audience. The nocturnal one, who finds it convenient to wake you all hours of the night, for a snuggle.

Irreplaceable, is this cat to one’s heart.

Lani – Day 1 with her brothers. She is the only Brown-patch in the group.

Lucky me to have friends and family that have beautiful feline family members, a kitty blog for showcasing them and a genuine love for creature status cats, (this is all-inclusive in the feline animal kingdom by the way).  If you know the cat breed, Maine Coons, you know what a treat and loving companion you have.  Maine coons are one of the oldest natural American breeds from the state of Maine.

Main Coons are known for several special attributes, below are a few of my favorites.

  1. Ear Furnishings – plentiful fur inside their ears.
  2. Snow-shoe paws – additional fur in-between their paws that actually help protect their pads as they walk on snow.
  3. Gentle human like love – from nuzzling and kisses these cats are pure love.

Let the Birthday celebrations begin!

Ladies first.

Happy Birthday #2 beautiful Lani!

Lani and her brothers at one day old above is a seriously beautiful group of kittens!  It’s funny that she was the only girl and the only patch! Lani is the biggest love sponge you ever want to meet. She sleeps between her Mommy and Daddy every night and she has to be held in a bear hug to get to sleep….she insists! Her Daddy is especially good at that! She loves everyone and she’s the only one of the cats in this family that has befriended Bella the parrot. If Bella is on the kitchen island Lani is with her…partners in crime, lol!

Lani the cat and Bella the Parrot.

Pat, her Mommy says, “I always say she was made just for me, she is beyond attentive, and my little helper following me around the house every day as I clean up. She is truly a treasure…I really hit the jackpot!”  Lani was born on May 1, 2010.

Lani Bell – Age 2

Happy Birthday #2 beautiful Nayla!

Nayla’s darling baby kitten snuggled in a boot pose, and her current classic pose, showing off her white boots.  She was born at the Koontopia Maine Coon Cattery in KY on April 7, 2010.

Nayla Bell kitten tucked in a ceramic shoe – darling girl

Nayla and her classic pose, white booted beauty

Nayla is the classic “gentle giant” of Maine Coons. She is quite reserved and has the quietest high pitch meow you ever heard coming out of such a big cat.  She is very sweet, and if she catches a lizard, and her sister takes it away she just lets her keep it.

Nayla Bell – Age 2

Like most Maine Coons she loves water and can often be found playing in a sink of water or sleeping in the sink.  Her play area consists of a large screened in outdoor area.  Most days she can be found hunting and sleeping in the bushes by the pool. She is an affectionate little (big) supervisor!

A special thank you to my friend, Pat Bell for sharing your beautiful princesses Lani and Nayla.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Happy Birthday to twins, Ducan MacMouser and Dandy O’Lion celebrating their 2 year Birthday on May 1, 2012.

Twins; Duncan MacMouser and Dandy O’Lion – 2 years

Duncan MacMouser and Dandy O’Lion we’re born on May 1st, 2010, Koontopia’s Run for the Roses, part of a litter of six classic red tabby boys and one beautiful brown patch girl.  They are brothers to Lani above.

Duncan is small for a Maine Coon, weighing only 14 lbs, but don’t tell him he is not a really big boy. He’s our brave heart. Strong natured, outgoing and oh, so sweet. He is very vocal, often all night long. His fur is unusually soft “Like a Bunny”. Duncan loves being brushed and will roll over so you can get every spot. Tummy rubs and fetching paper are his favorites, along with water. He will drink from a faucet and intently watch water swirl. Duncan’s nickname is Little Laddie.

Duncan MacMouser, age 2

Dandy O’Lion is a shy boy, very loving. He is smart and very stubborn. Once his mind is fixed on something, it is hard to get him to forget about it. He loves opening all the closet doors in the house. Dandy also loves to cuddle with his half-sister, Cougar Rose. In fact, He loves to cuddle period. His favorite toy is his YumYum, a blue furry snake. He carries it with him and hides it in different spots in the house. When he brings it to you, he cries to be praised, for he brought you his prize. His fur has curls and more curls. His nickname is Dandy-Boy.

Dandy O’Lion – Age 2

A special thank you to my Friend, Echelle Sauer for sharing her handsome twin boys; Dunan and Dandy!

Happy Birthday Lani, Nayla, Ducan and Dandy – Two looks great on each of you!

Here kitty kitty…. Got a kitty celebrating a birthday and want me to blog about your special friend.  Leave a comment and we will take it from there.

Good afternoon Earth Day 2012!

Grace and Twilight, so thankful to be basking in the sun this morning via Mother Nature, wanted to remind us that Earth Day should be top of mind each day.

Mr. Sun's warmth provides a sister sharing morning. Earth Day 2012

A clean healthy world is essential and will exist for future generations of all animals if we do our part today.  Be aware and mindful of your carbon footprint.

Grace and Twilight recently found this video of Koko, the Gorilla, who receives a kitten visit.  Showing gentle love to our earth, as Koko is showing her gentle love toward this baby kitten, Tiger is a good start towards making a difference in our planet.  Love this earth, it’s the only one we have.  A good day and a good clean future to you!

Kitty Girl Blue

Little Miss, Held forever in our hearts.  Blue January 14, 1996 – April 18 2009.  April 18, 2012… the third anniversary of the passing of my most beloved Kitty Girl Blue.  I lost 10 lbs. in two weeks watching her go.  I had not known she was sick and suffering from Hyperthyroidism, it went undetected, until 18 days before she passed.  I also didn’t know that she would not react well to the medicine provided by my veterinarian’s office.  Loosing my lively spirited Blue, is one of my life’s most painful losses.  “She” is dedicated in her loving memory.

Tears still flood my eyes.

My husband and I adopted her as a 6 week old kitten from a farmhouse down the road.  She was half feral and half Birman.  She was a sick kitten that became a sick cat, however, we knew that we could give her the best care and chance, we had 13 years with her.  Our vet always referred to her as “the front page” cat, this referral came since she was on his front page of the most wild cats he had ever seen.  He wore large thick leather grilling gloves when he cared for her, lol.  Yes, she was an indoor cat, and eventually became adjusted to my husband and me over the years.  The first time I saw her sleep and lay on my lap was at 5 years old, she stayed for 2 hours.  I didn’t move, I just relished the event and knew that years of patience had finally won her love.  Blue was my little girl I never had, my heart was stolen and was never to be the same.

We lived on a 20K acre lake and saw our share of water-moccasins.  One day she killed one at the front of the house in the shrubs as we were taking our morning walk.  She earned “Princess Blue” status from that point on.  After she killed the snake, I killed it unnecessarily further with a garden hoe.  It was quite the experience.

She was not on a lead outside since she was such a good follower.  This led to the day my husband and I spent hours with two extended ladders up a tree trying to rescue her after neighborhood dogs frightened her up into a very tall pecan tree.

I also convinced my husband there would be no bugs including mosquitoes in our bedroom if she would sleep at the end of our bed.  This of course wasn’t true, but she spent the next 8 years sleeping in the high arch of my foot each night.  It was true comfort for me.  I should mention, she loved yogurt.

She has her own song, which I will share one day with you.  I wrote it in rush hour traffic in Dallas on the way home, really.  It’s a children’s song that I plan to use in a book one day.

She has a beautifully shaped kitty urn and sits in my library, the best book there with well-worn chapters.

There are hundreds of stories to tell, but I really want to leave you with a few pictures that tell her story.  Cherished memories of a beautiful love story.

Watching from window to window, curiously wondering if this is a new friend or just a passing fancy.

Busy birds, nesting, chirping, eating and flying quickly through.

We try to chat with them, but without success.  So, We enjoy the moment under the blue, cloudy or rain filled skies, wondering where their fancy wings take them, Pretty Birds.

Feeling the love after a long grooming.

Twilight’s look lends itself perfectly to the April cover of living well.  We spend several minutes in the morning and in the evening making sure she is tangle and mat free.  This warm spring has been particularly challenging as she creates several “mini me’s” with each brushing.

Twilight wanted to say a few words about long hair requirements.

It is so important to allow my Mommy daily grooming time.  You see, I sleep so much during the day, rolling around in my bed and grooming as needed.  Somehow, I create tangles and mats in my long flowing coat that start to hurt if they aren’t managed on a daily basis.

The good “mews”, I love being brushed and combed.  It relaxes me and takes Mommy away from my sister Grace.  Grace and I always compete for her time, but I don’t think she knows.

I love staying at home at the spa at Eden Close.  5 Paw rating for the spa and so much more.  Any-who, I’m off for nap-time, another lesson we can talk about later.

Cats Are Wonderful friends

Twilight, so gentle is the love from my feline friend. My heart leaps with joy from her sweet affectionate ways.

Gentle eyes that see so much,
paws that have the quiet touch,
Purrs to signal “all is well”
and show more love than words could tell.
Graceful movements touched with pride,
a calming presence by our side –
A friendship that takes time to grow –
Small wonder why we love them so.

An English Fairy tale, by Joseph Jacob’s – “Cat or Kit, or whatever you please, sir”

1967 Christmas, Dad reading to Melissa and me.

I grew up reciting this story for fun, and for a good bit of competition with my twin sister, Melissa.  We listened to this tale, via a Danny Kaye record of children’s stories.  The irony is my Father’s name, is Daniel Kay, so we must have been good listeners.  Those days, created a childhood full of simple, gentle and good wholesome fun.  What a blessing to have loving wonderful parents!  Melissa and I still recite this as fast as we can, with proud smiles.  White-faced Simminy, the cat, created the “tail” around this English Fairy tale.  Please enjoy, and do read this to your children.

A Girl once went to the fair to hire herself for servant. At last a funny-looking old gentleman engaged her and took her home to his house. When she got there, he told her that he had something to teach her, for that in his house he had his own names for things.

He said to her, “What will you call me?” “Master or mister, or whatever you please, sir,” says she.  He said, “You must call me master of all masters.’ And what would you call this?” pointing to his bed.  “Bed or couch, or whatever you please, sir.”  “No, that’s my ‘barnacle’. And what do you call these?” said he, pointing to his pantaloons.  “Breeches or trousers, or whatever you please, sir.”  “You must call them ‘squibs and crackers.’  And what would you call her?” pointing to the cat.  Cat or kit, or whatever you please, sir.'”You must call her ‘white-faced simminy’

Kitty Blue, my Little Miss captured in the chapters of my heart

” And this now,” showing the fire, “what would you call this?” “Fire or flame, or whatever you please, sir.”  “You must call it ‘hot cockalorum’; and what this?” he went on, pointing to the water.  “Water or wet, or whatever you please, sir.”  “No, ‘pondalorum’ is its name.

And what do you call all this?” asked he, as he pointed to the house. “House or cottage, or whatever you please, sir.”  “You must call it ‘high topper mountain.'”

That very night the servant woke her master up in a fright and said, “Master of all masters, get out of your barnacle and put on your squibs and crackers. For white-faced simminy has got a spark of hot cockalorum on its tail, and unless you get some pondalorum high topper mountain will be all on hot cockalorum….”

That’s all 🙂
