Think Summer Fun!
Summer is here packed with Sunshine, long days, picnic foods and a more carefree spirit. I have to believe my cats feel the same way, lounging for hours on the warm screened in porch, then in the luxury of their air-conditioned home and napping the day away. Grace and Twilight are always ready for a treat as the rustling of the bag calls them into the kitchen, a long drink of cool water from the fridge is up next, and a quick round of play. Then of course, the squirrel watching, it must be like watching TV, so the monitor look of June’s cover reflects.
Best wishes to you and yours for a long cool playful summer!

an author’s poem – Melinda Merijanian
Contently curled on the cashmere throw as if it were an inherited personal heirloom.
Basking in the sun as a bikini clad model would, with the expectation of accolades from passers-by. Sleeping all hours of the day and never lifting a paw, since there is the required staff. Dining on meals with a preference of an attentive audience. The nocturnal one, who finds it convenient to wake you all hours of the night, for a snuggle.
Irreplaceable, is this cat to one’s heart.

Good afternoon Earth Day 2012!
Grace and Twilight, so thankful to be basking in the sun this morning via Mother Nature, wanted to remind us that Earth Day should be top of mind each day.
A clean healthy world is essential and will exist for future generations of all animals if we do our part today. Be aware and mindful of your carbon footprint.
Grace and Twilight recently found this video of Koko, the Gorilla, who receives a kitten visit. Showing gentle love to our earth, as Koko is showing her gentle love toward this baby kitten, Tiger is a good start towards making a difference in our planet. Love this earth, it’s the only one we have. A good day and a good clean future to you!

Watching from window to window, curiously wondering if this is a new friend or just a passing fancy.
Busy birds, nesting, chirping, eating and flying quickly through.
We try to chat with them, but without success. So, We enjoy the moment under the blue, cloudy or rain filled skies, wondering where their fancy wings take them, Pretty Birds.

Twilight’s look lends itself perfectly to the April cover of living well. We spend several minutes in the morning and in the evening making sure she is tangle and mat free. This warm spring has been particularly challenging as she creates several “mini me’s” with each brushing.
Twilight wanted to say a few words about long hair requirements.
It is so important to allow my Mommy daily grooming time. You see, I sleep so much during the day, rolling around in my bed and grooming as needed. Somehow, I create tangles and mats in my long flowing coat that start to hurt if they aren’t managed on a daily basis.
The good “mews”, I love being brushed and combed. It relaxes me and takes Mommy away from my sister Grace. Grace and I always compete for her time, but I don’t think she knows.
I love staying at home at the spa at Eden Close. 5 Paw rating for the spa and so much more. Any-who, I’m off for nap-time, another lesson we can talk about later.

inA bit of humor for my readers to go along with my love post today. We have a robust squirrel population, like most of you out there. And, generally when they chew on the freshly painted shutters, or the new growth on the trees they send your thoughts to other ideas verses cute and lets grab the camera.
However, we have had “no tail”, you can imagine his predicament. And, this little guy, who is quite cute with his human characteristics. I call him “Top Gun”, as he has a confident “air” about him. Grace and Twilight have their own opinion and have enjoyed several lively conversations with this new kid in town. 🙂

Twilight, so gentle is the love from my feline friend. My heart leaps with joy from her sweet affectionate ways.
Gentle eyes that see so much,
paws that have the quiet touch,
Purrs to signal “all is well”
and show more love than words could tell.
Graceful movements touched with pride,
a calming presence by our side –
A friendship that takes time to grow –
Small wonder why we love them so.

inOriginally, my thoughts were to find a picture of a cat in the fog, since Grace and Twilight will never be out in the fog, and place Carl Sandburg’s poem, Fog along side. But, alas this has been done, and done well. Take a look at this blog and original art by Laurel Neustadter.
However, I do love this poem and wanted to share it with you here, on my Modern Cat Life blog. I have thought of it often over the years after seeing dense fog caught in the hills of the Missouri landscape, floating in the mountains of Virginia, Washington D.C. and Colorado, and sitting still over the rivers in Alabama. This poem haunts me in a good way.
The picture below is a birds-eye view from the second story of my Alabama backyard. I think this old man in the Chinese Tallow, “popcorn” tree may be reciting this poem as his picture was taken in the dense fog. What do you think?
